Chapter Seven

A knock sounded at the door of their suite the following evening—just half an hour after sunset according to the notification on Leelan’s phone.

It wasn’t something he’d given much thought to in the past. The sun rose, and it set. He’d never needed to know the precise times that happened. Since adopting vampire hours, however, he’d set alarms on his phone to ensure he always knew when it was safe for Sebastian to leave the underground level.

To his knowledge, they weren’t expecting anyone, which only made him more curious about who had knocked. Hurrying out of the bedroom, he strained to hear what Court said to the person out in the hallway.

When the vampire ushered in an attractive human male with short bronze hair and piercing gray eyes, Leelan’s curiosity immediately morphed into jealousy. He had no trouble recognizing the black cashmere robe as the ones the hotel’s blood donors wore, nor did he miss the suite number—their suite number—embroidered on the left breast.

Stepping forward, he jabbed his finger at the human and growled. “What the hell is he doing here?”

Court stared back at him with a bored expression. “He’s a donor.”

“I know what he is,” Leelan snapped. “I want to know what he’s doing here.”

Logically, he knew it was no different than ordering a ribeye from room service. A crude comparison maybe, but true, nonetheless. Yet, telling himself that did nothing to quell the overwhelming possessiveness. Feeding didn’t have to be sexual. Mostly, it wasn’t, but an intimacy still existed that couldn’t be avoided.

The fact that Sebastian had only ever taken blood from him during sex probably colored his perception, but he didn’t care. Rationality stood no chance against righteous indignation. His mate never took much—the old ones could go days on just a sip—but Leelan would give him whatever he needed.

He’d let Sebastian drain him dry before he allowed his mate’s lips to touch that human’s skin.

“Well?” he demanded when neither of them answered him.

“Blood. Donor.” Court enunciated the words slowly as if he considered Leelan to be especially obtuse. “It’s fairly self-explanatory.”

Nope. Nuh-uh. Not happening.

Striding over to the human, Leelan took him by the elbow and turned him toward the exit. “Thank you, but your services are no longer required.” He jerked the door open and started pushing the protesting male toward it. “Get the fuck out.”

“Leelan?”

Frowning, he stuck his head out into the hallway. “Sebastian?” He glanced over his shoulder, then back out into the corridor, frowning as his mate strode toward him. “What are you doing out there?”

Beside him, Aleksa held up a brown paper bag and a large cup of coffee. “Breakfast!” Her smile faded somewhat as her gaze drifted to the human “Who is that?”

In his anger, Leelan hadn’t realized Sebastian had left the suite. When he’d woken up alone in their bed, he’d just assumed his mate had already started working for the night. “I…uh…”

Shit.

“My breakfast,” Court said flatly as he pulled the human back into the room.

Double shit.

“Oops,” he muttered, feeling the heat rising in his cheeks.
